“33 The LORD’s curse is on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the home of the righteous. 34 He mocks proud mockers but shows favor to the humble and oppressed. 35 The wise inherit honor, but fools get only shame.” – Proverbs 3:33-35
It’s another year for the Red Eagles Secondary Basketball Boys. Same as last year, they defeated Unit 5 – PRISAA in the Semis. This time it was by the JMC Rostered Team.
With a jampacked crowd by parents, classmates, teachers and alumni, mostly former players, the team was spirited to play. But the road to championship did not come easy because PRISAA also came prepared for them with bigger players than last time.
During the first quarter, Holy Child struggled with an early penalty but fortunately PRISAAs attempts does not give them much scores. With players heated up, Belicario and Bedoya got dragged to intense physical plays with Bragat and Cruz, from PRISAA. It was a tight quarter for both teams and PRISAA closes it with a 5 point lead, 14-9.
In the Second Quarter, PRISAA immediately suffered with multiple turn overs and the heated up Bedoya took advantage of it to tie the game for the first time at 20 points. As PRISAA continue to struggle adjusting with their spacing, Kyle Jamora backed Bedoya’s efforts scoring back to back to switch the lead to Holy Child’s favor, 24-20. PRISAA’s Ching and Payosing doubles up and managed to tie the game. Holy Child was back to penalty situation causing PRISAA to catch up to end the quarter 32-30, in favor of Holy Child.
A more intense and pumped up Holy Child opens the third quarter. Axl Taporco and Kyle Jamora’s combinations torched Holy Child further to lead the game. Another heated confrontation between Bedoya and Cruz stirs the game, costing Bedoya an unsportsmanship foul. But this did not stop Holy Child to push forward as Jamora puts more 3s to the basket with his easy basket plays. Holy Child continued to give PRISAA tight defense and quick plays leaving them behind by 10 points to end the third quarter, 49-39.
Struggling PRISAA tried to close the gap in the fourth quarter but their shot attempts are not making any score. 4 minutes left on the game and Holy Child advances further leaving PRISAA to dust at 65-58. When the clock entered the last 2 minutes of the game, Holy Child easily predicts PRISAAs passes making it as an turn over advantage.
Kyle Jamora lead the team and contributed 18 points, Victor Bedoya got 13 points and Axl Taporco scored 12 points. The game ended 73-64 with Holy Child moving again to another Finals of DCAA with an undefeated standing so far.
